Analysing Foods

 A few weeks ago, a group of students from my school walked to New World in Mt Roskill. We were given a piece of paper by a woman that had a bunch of columns. The columns are shown in this presentation. We had to write down 2 different types of meals for each section and write down the amount of sugar, fat etc from the per 100g section. I have chosen to present my work on a google slide.

The common saying “the grass is greener on the other side” is a lie. The other side is filled with tremendous

amounts of plastic and waste thrown there by you. This substance that cannot be digested by earth, is a

constant threat to earth's sea life, but humans too. This is the age of humankind.

Open your eyes, when did we become a plastic society? Understand that this place we call home is not

a dumpster truck. Your thoughtless actions have consequences that affect everyone. It seems silly that

a little plastic bag could do such harm. However, that little plastic bag contributes to environmental issues

in several ways.

For one, plastic smothers the earth. Our lands and seas are littered all over the world and continue “unnoticed”.

You walk around seeing a need but not responding. Another point is they kill our marine and wildlife threatening

them to extinction. Lastly, Scientists believe that plastic will out-weight our fish by 2050, which is a scary and

brutal to our environment. However, these situations do not have to occur.

To my relief, this atrocious and impulsive problem is able to be cured.

By having families use alternatives for glad wrap, foil etc, such as reusable bags and containers, we can create

litter free lunches and become a litter free school/community. Another way is by switching from plastic bags to

paper or ordinary bags from home as they are better for the environment. You could also use reusable bottles or

mugs instead of buying plastic bottles full of water, juice and more.

Surprisingly, plastic has been one of the most lethal inventions of mankind. They have a major negative impact on

humanity, animals and the environment. If you see a need but don’t respond you are the problem. So take action

and motivate others to reduce their use of plastic.

For reading, my group and I have been reading a book called "Driving us into the future" which inspired me to create this emaze based on the History of Electric Cars. This Presentation  talks about the early stages and also the future of electric cars. However these are only theories.

Global Warming

For term 1's Inquiry the whole hub (Rooms 1,2 & 3) were creating questions about environmental issues we face (Sustainability). My group created presentation on Global Warming using Powtoon. We found this information using google and YouTube videos.

Softball Tournament

“Ugh, my shoes are wet” AJ moaned, as we stomped through the soggy fields. At least it’s not raining I
replied. The morning had a cool breeze but it was muggy. Honestly, it was like breathing in steam while
little puddles soaked into your socks. Thursdays I sighed to myself.

Us Year 7 & 8 girls along with two Year 6’s were competing at an Intermediate Girls only Softball
Tournament. Yes, I know, Year 6’s? It’s because they played softball for a club and we didn’t have enough
senior girls. It was held across the field, at the May Road War Memorial Park by Wesley Intermediate Boys.
The day before the game, most of us prayed that the weather would be sunny but not too hot. It was
cloudy at the tournament but that was good enough.

Miss Paton had yanked out the map that Mr Hadnett had given her and squinted her eyes trying to find
“Diamond 7”. At first I wondered why we were looking for diamonds but then remembered Hayden
saying something about a diamond in training. I remembered it was the Softball version of a field. Then
we all stood in utter annoyance as we finally noticed we were STANDING at diamond 7.  I noticed teams
practising and felt a little bit threatened. We set a large mat down and plopped our belongings on top. We
snatched out a ball and started throwing some passes around. About 15 minutes later the games had begun.
A loud horn blew and we all instantly looked at Miss Paton who was talking to the other team. Suddenly
butterflies entered my stomach.

For each game we did rock paper scissors to see which team would bat and which team would field.
These were the game scores:

CTK (6) versus Mt Roskill Intermediate (7)

CTK (1) versus Royal Intermediate (2)

CTK (10) versus Pasadena Intermediate (0)

We placed 11th out of 12 but at least we tried. I guess we’re all winners!

Who is Jesus for me?

Jesus for me is my saviour, because he saved us from feeling guilt and from our sins.

What are values?

Morals that you believe will help you become a better person or achieve one of your goals.

What are Jesus’ values?

To love all even your enemies, respect for one another and to think before you do.

Do your values align with Jesus?

Often my behaviour does not align with Jesus’ values as I am sometimes tempted to do the wrong thing.

What is a disciple?

A disciple is a friend/associate of Jesus  

What are the roles of today's disciples?

To love and serve God/Jesus and to lead others into the light like Jesus did.

How do you live as a disciple of Jesus?

By praying everyday, not doubting him and also trying my best to live like him myself.

The Exclusive Hotel

The Exclusive Hotel

The day had come. I could not apprehend that we were really going to the Cordis Hotel. One moment
we were in class and the next, we were in a bus driving through the city. I had used Scratch before for
some practise, but never for anything as interesting and fun like coding!

I was extremely excited to be going to a posh hotel, I just didn’t know what to expect. When we hopped
off the bus we were welcomed by a lady named Sarah, who was one of the people we were working with that day. She introduced herself then led us off through the main entrance. We walked down some
stairs and entered a room next to another school.  To my amazement, I was breath taken by the organized,
productive and luxurious sight.  “A room filled with Laptops on tables, my gosh where am I?” I thought.
We sat down on the massive mat space and were welcomed by Michael and Sarah once more. Melianna,
AJ and I were asked to do rock, paper, scissors, to see who was going to speak on the phone with
“Radio New Zealand” which later on didn’t happen.

We sat at a desk and were approached with water. “WATER! What hotel has their own water?!” I imagined
to myself. Then we began. Next to the expensive laptops was a small booklet, a mouse and a pen. The
device had already been logged in and set up on to the site Scratch. In the booklet was instructions that told
us what to click to make a game, it also had checkboxes which we used the pens to check once we had
done each stage. The game was called Ghostbusters. We clicked on things like “backdrop, sprite character”
and then clicked on the programming icons like motion, looks, sound and more. Eventually other people
from around the world (I think) had come into the room and walked around to other students asking about
what they were learning.

By the time most of the students including myself had finished our games, most of the ministry people had
left and it was time to pack up. We sat on the mat once more, then were asked if anyone could show their
game. Cathy, Melianna, Tiana, Charlee, Cleo and I had presented our games to the class, then sat back
down. Certificates were handed to us as we lined up. After that we were escorted out of the building.
That was my experience at the  Cordis hotel.

During my time at the Cordis Hotel I had loads of fun. The time went unbelievably fast. Speaking to many
people from around the world was great. The air conditioned room and the bottled water just added a fun
and professional touch to the place. I enjoyed every second of that day and look forward to creating more
coding games on Scratch!
